Donovan Green departs Texas A&M football for transfer portal after long injury recovery

Texas A&M football didn't have quite the year at the tight end position that they anticipated in 2024. Collin Klein utilized guys like Ben Sinnott to great effect at Kansas State, but while Theo Mehlin Ohrstrom and Tre Watson saw some playing time this season, they were not used to quite the effect that Aggie fans had anticipated.

Said plainly, the Aggies had a dearth of receiving talent at the TE position this past season. While Ohrstrom in particular showed a lot of potential, he's still developing, and Watson had trouble with drops far too often.

One guy who didn't see much action was Donovan Green. After suffering a fall camp injury last season, Green had worked his way back over the past year, but he apparently was not back to form in time for this season. He saw a few snaps, but worked mostly on special teams, and didn't really make an impact in 2024.

That was a disappointment after his freshman year, in which he looked every bit of a guy who would be a huge contributor going forward. Fans were enthusiastic about his potential, and his enthusiasm for the Aggies on social media made him a favorite among the Aggie faithful.

However, that enthusiasm has sadly petered out. It was announced today that Green would be entering the transfer portal after three seasons in Aggieland.

The Aggies will be searching for a replacement at pass-catching TE for this upcoming season. The continued development of Ohrstrom is a plus, but the Ags simply need more at the position. With Green off the table as an option, that narrows what A&M can do.
