After Commanders upset, could Dallas Cowboys make Aaron Glenn another veteran of Texas A&M football to be NFL coach?
Texas A&M football fans, following the disastrous season of the Dallas Cowboys and the quick exit we saw from the Houston Texans, were mostly of one mind in the NFL playoffs: Detroit or bust. With two former Aggie players featuring prominently on the staff, it was a real no-brainer for A&M fans to pull for Motor City after both teams from the Lone Star State were dismissed.
Of course, as we now know, that journey was quickly found to be ill-fated. The Lions, decimated by injury, were all too susceptible to the combination of Kliff Kingsbury and Jayden Daniels, and the Commanders ran roughshod over what had up until that point looked like the best team in the NFC.
By and large, most have chalked that poor defensive performance up to the aforementioned injuries, but while he is still likely to get interviews, it's safe to say that a little bit of the shine has come off of Lions DC Aaron Glenn. The former DB for Texas A&M football was set to be one of the hottest names in the coaching market this offseason, alongside his fellow Detroit coordinator Ben Johnson.
One team that is taking a close look at Glenn is none other than the Dallas Cowboys, whose despotic owner Jerry Jones is reportedly "intrigued" by the possibility of bringing in the Detroit DC. After that performance, this is a real opportunity for America's Team to buy low on Glenn.
It's hard to say anyone would succeed in Dallas with the way things are going right now, but teams look frantic to replicate the rock-solid culture that Dan Campbell has brought to Detroit— and by all accounts, Glenn is a man after Campbell's own heart in that respect. Their common heritage as Aggies, and the particular culture that A&M has, is no doubt a big reason for that.
So, could Glenn end up in Dallas? It's looking likely that he's going to be a finalist, but I wouldn't put it past Jerry to really swing for the fences and look to make a huge splash. If it is Glenn, though, I'd say that's one of the more solid hires the Cowboys could have made.
