Latest AP Top 25 has Texas A&M basketball staying put at 13th in nation
Texas A&M basketball has had one heck of a week. On the road in Oxford, they got absolutely blitzed by a hot-shooting and fiercely-defending Rebels squad, and Chris Beard's bunch led the game early on in what looked like it would be a sure win.
However, the Aggies— who had struggled on the road— came back for an unbelievable win after a last-second basket by Manny Obaseki. Their unrelenting defense and full-court press won them the day in Oxford, and they exited the game as victors.
The exact opposite thing happened in Austin on Saturday. The Aggies went up big early on, with a 43-25 lead at halftime ballooning to a 22-point lead in the second half. But it was A&M that went cold this time, and some hot shooting by the Longhorns put them over the top in the final seconds.
Both games turned from snoozers into must-see TV by the end, and A&M experienced both sides of that. What this adds up to, in the end, is a big fat zero— at least, when it comes to the AP Poll.
The Aggies stay put this week at 13th after these results. Their gritty road win against a ranked Ole Miss team was apparently balanced out by the loss to an unranked Texas. With both results coming by the slimmest of margins, I understand this outcome.
Texas A&M basketball has more opportunity ahead of them, though. They play Oklahoma at home and South Carolina on the road before things really kick up down the stretch, with a host of ranked matchups awaiting.
