Texas A&M steals road series from no. 2 Arkansas to show resurgence is real
Texas A&M is experiencing a shocking baseball resurgence. After the Aggies were as good as dead early on in the season, going from a preseason top-ranked team to dropping out of the polls altogether, they’ve now strung together as impressive of a stretch of baseball as we’ve seen out of any team in the country.
The Aggies raised eyebrows with a series win in Knoxville over the top-ranked Tennessee Volunteers two weeks ago. They kept the mojo going with a sweep of the South Carolina Gamecocks as well. But this weekend’s series against Arkansas would be a true test: the Razorbacks had only lost two home conference series in the past five years.
But the Aggies are in the business of breaking the mold this season, apparently. They traipsed into Fayetteville, and after a convincing game one win, took the final game of Saturday’s doubleheader to knock off the Hogs.
This series was quite impressively done by the Aggies, in particular by the pitching staff. As Billy Liucci pointed out on X, the Hogs had scored at least 6 in every SEC game up until that point, and the Ags held them to 2 and 4 runs in the two A&M wins.
The Aggies now face the challenge that every A&M fan has had circled on their calendar for months: after their midweek contest, they’ll travel to Austin to face former coach Jim Schlossnagle and the now-top-ranked Longhorns. If the Aggies knocked off the Volunteers, they can do the same to the Longhorns, but this will be their toughest test yet for a multitude of reasons.
As the Aggies gain momentum, though, it looks increasingly like they are equal to a task like this. Doubt them at your own risk— they might just be back.
