Aggie defensive lineman forms significant part of top-graded NFL Draft haul by one team

One of the top draftees from Texas A&M football is a big part of what made draft day so special for this team.

While the draft wasn't the best overall for Texas A&M, they were well-represented in the high rounds. The Aggies put three defensive linemen in the first two rounds, showing how well they've been able to develop that position on their team over the last few years.

The second lineman to go was Nic Scourton. The Carolina Panthers called his name in the second round, at pick 51, and he honestly could have gone a lot higher had things gone differently down the stretch of the season for him.

In any case, though, Scourton was a big value for the Panthers up in the second round, when some early mock drafts had him as a top-10 overall player in the class. Not only does he address a need for Carolina, but he'll do so expeditiously— he could be a big time contributor right off the bat, alongside other Aggies like Demani Richardson or Bobby Brown.

Scourton forms massive piece of highly-graded draft haul for Carolina Panthers

Due in part to the value that Carolina found in Scourton, PFF rated Carolina's haul an "A+" on the night.

This is clearly a mix of finding contributors at position of need and finding overall value, both of which Scourton brings to Carolina.

Hopefully, the Bryan, Texas native can make a quick impact in his first stop in the league. I have no doubt that he'll be able to do so, based on everything he's shown in his college career, but fit is always important in these situations. Luckily for Nic, it seems like he's in a spot that will let him shine.
