Texas A&M's longtime quarterback commit in the class of 2026, Helaman Casuga from Corner Canyon High School in Utah, is beginning to draw attention in a major way. The Elite 11 finals are this week, one of the most important events on the calendar for quarterback recruits, and Casuga is starting to distinguish himself at that event.

Casuga's season last year was cut short by an injury, something that no doubt affected his ranking. While he's still a top-200 recruit in the country regardless of position by most services, he's maybe not ranked as highly as he could be if he had stayed healthy.

The promise that caught the eye of Collin Klein and the rest of Mike Elko's staff here in College Station is beginning to emerge in this venue, however. Casuga is coming off a huge day out at the Elite 11 finals, one that saw him win the MVP over a loaded field, including five stars like Keisean Henderson and Dia Bell.

This is a big time move for Casuga, and one that will catch the eyes of a lot of recruiting services around the nation as the final rankings are figured out.

This is significant for more reasons than just national recognition for Casuga, too. As On3's Steve Wiltfong points out, this will aid the Aggies' chances as they make bids for some of the nation's top wide receivers:

But on that note, Casuga's ascent will help the Aggies grow in estimation around the nation in general. Klein was in early on his recruitment, showing how good of an evaluation it was for him to hone in on Casuga before most other schools in the nation made him a priority.

The fact that he's an out of state player could end up being tough for the Aggies, as we saw last cycle with Husan Longstreet. However, Casuga is locked in with A&M by all accounts, so hopefully history doesn't repeat itself in that sense.

As the Elite 11 wears on, it will be interesting to see how Casuga ranks after everything shakes out. His performance yesterday was certainly eye-catching, so hopefully he continues to turn heads.
