In the middle of Texas A&M's eyebrow-raising streak of beating Texas for recruits time and time again over the last few weeks, I think very few fans thought it would go on for forever, much less the rest of the cycle. There were a few recruits for which it seemed like the Longhorns led, such as the still-yet-to-publicly-announce Jamarion Carlton (with whom the Aggies are no longer involved anyway), but every toss-up it seemed like the Aggies were winning.
Finally, that streak has come to an end. The Longhorns finally got one to go their way, as top-50 prospect John Turntine announced for Texas yesterday evening.
This was one that the Aggies felt good about at one point, but a visit to Austin ended up seeing the Horns recapture the momentum they had earlier on in Turntine's recruitment. The OL pledged to the Longhorns yesterday over the Aggies, Michigan, and Stanford.
Texas A&M misses on John Turntine as Texas recaptures momentum late in recruitment
The Aggies still have an impressive offensive line class in the boat currently with Avery Morcho, Zaden Krempin, and Samuel Roseborough— the latter two actually being wins over Texas from earlier in the cycle. After having taken six OL in the previous cycle, there's not a massive need to add to this group absent a big name that they get in on.
I'm sure Cushing and company will keep the pressure on in this one, but Turntine is a guy who has taken his time in the process up until this point and who will likely be locked in from this point forward. The Aggies will do well to maintain that relationship— in this modern era of college football, that makes more sense than ever— but I'd be surprised to see a flip happen.
