Texas A&M is building for the future in a huge way right now with their top-ranked 2027 recruiting class, and they’re looking to do the same thing in 2028. The Aggies are reportedly the front runner for Prince Che, one of the nation’s top defensive lineman in the current junior cycle, and a sure-thing prospect to end up as a five-star.
Che visited College Station this past weekend for the game against Kentucky, and though things went awfully awry on the field for A&M, the environment at Kyle Field and the way that Elko and this staff excel in hosting recruits clearly made a huge impression. Che, the 12th-ranked prospect overall in the class of 2027, would be a huge addition on the defensive line for the Aggies— the kind of flagship recruit you can build a big time class around.
The five-star defensive lineman hails from Thomasville, Georgia— it won’t be an easy thing for the Aggies to pull him out of Bulldog country, but they’ve had a heck of a lot of success in recent years when it comes to the Peach State, and you can never doubt Elijah Robinson in a recruiting battle.
Texas A&M reported front runner for 5-star Prince Che as prospects begin blooming for 2028 class
Texas A&M has a really solid base already built in the 2028 cycle with the commitments of 4-star edge rusher Chance Archangel as well as their five-star quarterback of the future in Donald Tabron, who hails from Cass Technical up in Detroit. Tabron’s teammate, as it happens, is the top-rated offensive tackle in the nation, Antijuan Wilkes— another player for whom the Aggies are going to be a strong contender.
Aggie fans saw how important the lines of scrimmage are in the game against Kentucky last week, so being an early leader for a guy like Che and right in the thick of it for other five-star linemen on either side of the ball should be a real encouragement. This is obviously very early in the cycle, of course, but big time commitments are happening earlier and earlier in the cycle with each passing year.
Che has two predictions in to land with the Aggies after his visit to College Station this past weekend, both from Rivals’ Texas A&M writers. It looks like Florida and Georgia are going to be the biggest competition, so this is going to be a long-term heavyweight battle, but Elijah Robinson and the rest of the Aggie staff are built for it.
The Aggies have a couple of high-level defensive tackles committed in the current cycle— Myels Smith out of California and Elijah Patmon out of Georgia— so adding Che would help set a foundation for the 2028 cycle that would be truly elite. For all of Jimbo’s recruiting success when he was in College Station, after the 2022 class, he was unable to stack elite cycles together back to back.
That’s exactly what the Aggies are looking to do now. Georgia, Alabama, and Ohio State don’t win titles off of the back of only one elite class— they stack them year after year, adding key transfers in the portal as well. Elko has Texas A&M on that trajectory right now: we’ve seen the effectiveness of his recruiting and his portal strategy so far.
Hopefully, these predictions about Che end up panning out for the Aggies. Texas A&M needs to keep up their massive recruiting momentum— and adding a guy like this would be the perfect way to do that.
