Aggies still clearly on the brain for now-eliminated rival Texas Longhorns

Both teams are now at home, and with the season now complete, it's pretty clear that Texas spent the year stewing over the Aggies.

Despite very different fanbase reactions one week ago when the field of 64 was announced, both Texas A&M and Texas now sit at home with exactly the same number of postseason wins. The Longhorns were unceremoniously eliminated from their regional on their home field by the UTSA Roadrunners, a team that Texas fans mocked the Aggies for losing to early in the year before going 0-3 against them.

Though most of the talk in Aggieland has been about where A&M goes from here, given that they are retaining their embattled head man in Michael Earley, there was a bit of interest given to the Roadrunners knocking off the Longhorns. Over in Austin, though, there was far more chatter about the Aggies than you might expect, especially after their home field humiliation was complete.

There were some surprisingly reflective moments, and some unintentionally transparent ones. But one thing is clear: even though the Aggies were at home, they were still taking up plenty of space in the collective Longhorn consciousness.

Texas still had Texas A&M on the mind even as Longhorns' season disintegrated

One Texas fan had an unexpected moment of clarity in reflecting on their season:

It's not just the fans, either. Even though the more clear-minded of the Texas faithful were able to admit that the Aggies were their motivation all season, many were recalcitrant at that notion— but a viral video of their head man made it hard to argue.

It's pretty clear that the mind of the Texas skipper was elsewhere. That should be no surprise to Aggie fans, of course: there's a kind of dramatic irony that this A&M fan pointed out on Twitter.

I won't say that the business between the Aggies and Schlossnagle is completely over and done with— in a way, it never will be. His first return to College Station is the final goalpost to clear before things completely simmer down. But the way things turned out here certainly helped Aggie fans out a little bit here.

I guess Schloss, at the end of the day, is just a creature of habit.

You hate to see it.
