Texas A&M basketball ranked 13th in preseason AP poll; how high can Aggies fly under Buzz Williams this year?

Texas A&M basketball was so close to having one of the most compelling games of the entire tournament last year. In the round of 32, confronting the top-seeded Houston Cougars, Andersson Garcia hit a last-second buzzer-beating shot that no Aggie fan watching will ever forget.

That ended up being the final big moment of the Aggies' run, as they faltered in overtime against the experienced and steady Cougars. But now, months later, A&M is ready to begin a new run under Buzz Williams.

They will do so with an experienced and steady group of their own, highlighted by Wade Taylor, the aforementioned Garcia, Solomon Washington, and Manny Obaseki—who came on like a flamethrower in the latter half of the season.

The Aggies' chances for a big year are not lost on the AP voters, who have Texas A&M basketball ranked as the 13th-best team in the country in the preseason.

Of course, much of this is similar to what we saw last year out of the Aggies. They started off ranked highly before a drought of wins—sadly, something that seems to have become a trend under Buzz Williams—hit. A strong close to the season propelled the Ags to the tournament, but they were once again underseeded for how they played as a team.

Those droughts will hopefully be a thing of the past with a team this experienced. However, the Aggies will still have a tough row to hoe ahead of them. Despite this lofty AP ranking, A&M was selected by the media to finish 5th in the conference.

It's never easy in the SEC, especially with teams like Alabama and Auburn peaking. But this Texas A&M basketball team has a chance to make some noise—we've just got to see them go out and do it.
