Predicting where Texas A&M football will be ranked in AP Top 25: Upsets wash out for Aggies

Coming into this week, Texas A&M football was ranked 15th in the AP Poll. This was a confusing result, of course, as this put them directly behind the LSU Tigers, whom they had just shellacked two weeks prior.

Well, with LSU getting shellacked once more this week, that has kind of taken care of itself. However, that may not guarantee that the Aggies move up a spot. Only a few votes behind the Aggies last week were the Ole Miss Rebels, who, though they have a worse conference record than A&M, have the same overall record.

Those Rebels, of course, just pulled off a huge upset over Georgia, and they will no doubt make a leap up into the top 10 following that result. Though the two teams will have the same record, I think we may see a classic case of "poll inertia" that means that the Bulldogs will remain ahead of the Rebels, however nonsensical that is.

That means that A&M will remain behind the Bulldogs and now be behind the Rebels, even though the LSU Tigers will fall back some way. Even so, there are still a few wildcards here.

First, you have the question of how far Miami falls. I don't think they move down from 4th even out of the top 10, though, but it's not out of the question with how marginal some of their wins have been so far this year.

We could also see 7-2 Colorado make a move after their win over Texas Tech. The Red Raiders weren't ranked, but many viewed this game as a measuring stick for just how seriously we should take the Buffaloes this year.

Overall, though, I think A&M stays static at 15. I think we could also see the South Carolina Gamecocks and Missouri Tigers enter the rankings this week, both of which will behoove A&M in the final analysis.

The AP Poll will be released at 1 PM CT.
