Arkansas's Sam Pittman move means Texas A&M is on high alert for road trip danger

This could easily spell disaster for the Aggies.

Arkansas has fired Sam Pittman, making official what many had been projecting to happen up in Fayetteville for quite some time now.

This move comes on the heels of a blowout loss to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, who vanquished Pittman's Hogs on the road by a score of 56-13. An Arkansas offense that had been the pride of the team completely failed to do anything against the Irish, and it just felt like it was a matter of time before Pittman was out the door.

This has some ripple effects that will be felt pretty clearly by the Aggies here in short order. With Pittman out the door, the logical candidate for interim is the man who everyone assumed would be in this position ever since he came to town: Bobby Petrino himself, as the school confirmed in their Sunday announcement. With the game against the Aggies only three weeks out, that means that the Ags need to be on high alert.

Texas A&M on even higher upset alert after Arkansas fires Sam Pittman

The Aggies will be venturing to Fayetteville for the first time since 2013 this year, after a long stretch of games at AT&T Stadium in Dallas where fortune smiled on the Aggies year after year. This is a game that the Arkansas faithful have been wanting to get back on campus for quite some time, as close breaks often favored the Aggies in the series— ones which may have gone differently if not at a neutral site.

Now, with Bobby Petrino back in the saddle— a former Arkansas coach who himself had a pretty good record against the Aggies as head man— Texas A&M needs to watch out. This is to say nothing of the storyline that Petrino was very recently the offensive coordinator for the Aggies before defecting to Arkansas, but that also has some relevance here as well.

The Hogs have a bye week, then they head to Tennessee before hosting the Aggies. With such an explosive offense for Petrino, Texas A&M needs to put that game away early— otherwise, we could see a repeat of 2022 Auburn
