As head coach of Texas A&M for six seasons, Buzz Williams helped rejuvenate some energy into the Texas A&M basketball program.
Even though there was some criticism on low fan attendance earlier this year, the new era of Bucky McMillan looks to be extremely promising. The Maryland Terrapins basketball team is also getting love from ESPN's Scott Van Pelt. Van Pelt is a prominent Maryland fan who's not shy to voice his thoughts on Maryland sports.
Van Pelt says he's 'impressed' on Buzz as HC of Maryland
While Texas A&M wasn't known to be the most attractive SEC team last season, they stayed in ball games because of their ability to extend possessions. They rattled teams by becoming one of the best offensive rebounding teams last year, and Van Pelt knows exactly what Buzz is all about.
""I'm impressed ... I think there's an identity, clearly, that his teams have. And at A&M, they didn't shoot it well, but they'll guard you for 40 minutes, and they're going to attack the offensive glass. They're going to rebound really well. So this group, it's a ton of folks from A&M."Scott Van Pelt on The Kevin Sheehan Show
This is something that Aggie fans know very well. Maryland is going to be tough and gritty, especially because of former A&M big man Pharrel Payne joining Buzz. SVP gave some flowers to Payne, praising his offensive rebounding and calling him 'the guy.'
It looks like a win-win for both schools. Maryland gets a new chance to redefine themselves while Texas A&M gets a new start with a trending head coach. Truly, congratulations to Buzz. He's going to be competing with heavy talent in the Big Ten, but it's only a matter of time until he can put Maryland on the map once again in a big way.
