November football kicks off this weekend for Mike Elko's Aggies as the team is headed to Columbia, Missouri, for a ranked SEC bout with the playoff-hopeful Missouri Tigers and with that, it's time to make some claims. From jumping on an inexperienced quarterback to a star player getting back on track, let's check out our bold predictions for the Aggies to reach for this Saturday.
Texas A&M matches its season total of interceptions in this game alone
Matt Zollers has one tall task ahead of him — stepping in at quarterback for the injured Beau Pribula, making his first career start with just 29 career pass attempts under his belt. To make matters worse, he's in a position where his team needs him to step up and make big plays. This isn't some tune-up game against an FCS opponent nor is it a meaningless game amidst a lost season; it's an undefeated Texas A&M team knocking on your door, and the difference between a win and a loss could effectively put an end to your postseason hopes.
That's not to say Zollers will be left out to dry — the rest of his team and his coaching staff will try to make his job as easy as possible — but in a game where Texas A&M is putting points on the board he's going to need to respond with his arm. If that's the case, I like Mike Elko's odds to confuse him enough on the field to cause a couple of turnovers.
The Aggie defense has not been one to cause turnovers this season and, while that means this is a bit of a reach, it also means they won't have to do too much to match their season total. So give me two Zollers interceptions for the Texas A&M secondary, in what will be the group's best performance of the season.
