Texas A&M basketball didn't have expectations last season under Bucky McMillan. After all, it was his first year in the SEC, and in the end, he got to the Round of 32.

Much better than what anyone was expecting of him, but now that the honeymoon phase is out of the way, the media fully expects McMillan and the Aggies to be a threat in year two. McMillan could start this offseason with a banger with a star on his hands in the transfer portal.

Brant Byers from Miami (OH) is in the portal, and not only is he a star waiting to happen, but he's the perfect fit for McMillan's system.

Texas A&M basketball needs to go after sharpshooter Brant Byers ASAP

With Byers likely to see a Power 4 school next season, he's already an accomplished player. He was named 2nd Team All-MAC after averaging 14.4 points and shooting 39% from 3, helping the Redhawks to a 32-2 record and an at-large NCAA Tournament bid.

He's 6-foot-8 and can shoot the lights out from deep. He's comparable to Zach Clemence, but Byers has proven himself to be a sharpshooter first. It will take time (as well as anyone new) to get adjusted to the full-court press that McMillan likes to run, but his shooting makes a perfect fit for this team.

Mackenzie Mgbako is going to be back after missing the majority of the season from injury. He and Byers would be a lethal duo at the forward positions, and there aren't too many other forwards in the country who would outshoot those two.

One of the best shooters is on the market, and Texas A&M needs to act fast before someone gets on him.
