Texas A&M basketball is desperately in need of some positive momentum right now, as the Aggies are currently riding a four-game losing streak that has turned the fanbase's mood on its head. Bucky McMillan and the A&M coaching staff are doing everything they can to turn things around, including rolling out a long-awaited alternate uniform, but McMillan is reaching even deeper into his bag than that.
You can say many things about the head coach for the Aggies, but you can't deny that he is a true student of the game. He put that on display with a historical note that was pretty eye-catching in a recent radio appearance— something that he is no doubt using to encourage his team in the midst of a tough run of games.
Bucky McMillan shows his intimate knowledge of A&M basketball history is unquestionable with encouraging tidbit
This note from the head man was quite the pull:
Bucky McMillan: “Last time the Aggies won the SEC it was 2016. They were 7-1, they lost 4 games back to back to back. Guess what happened Feb 16 2016?
— Kannon Torres (@TorresKannon) February 17, 2026
They played the Ole Miss rebels. Guess who we play Feb 16th? Ole Miss Rebels
Went on to win the SEC.”
I'll be honest here: this sounds like something I would trot out in a lookahead article, so I'm just upset that Bucky beat me to the punch here.
All joking aside, though, this does make the point that all is not yet lost for this Texas A&M basketball team. The Aggies still have plenty of opportunity ahead of them, even though they've had a rough go of things in the last few games— if they look like they did during their win streak, they're in great shape.
The Ags will have to pull some rabbits out of hats here soon, though. Ole Miss could certainly function as a get-right game, but Chris Beard's teams always play tough, so nothing is guaranteed.
The biggest thing that could help the Aggies is simply Ruben Dominguez regaining his earlier form. He's been abysmal from the field lately, but he has the ability to light things up quickly when he's on. Hopefully he can get things figured out and sorted here quickly.
If nothing else, this goes to show that Bucky is a student of the game— and A&M history in particular. This is a guy that knows his stuff, and I'm sure he'll make some noise here down the stretch with this team.
