Buzz Williams' new home run hire is already paying off for Texas A&M basketball

Texas A&M needed to address a glaring issue from their loss against Alabama. Now, it looks like they've done it.

The Texas A&M Aggies basketball team obliterated the Oklahoma Sooners on the glass in another incredible effort rebounding the basketball.

They have absolutely no problem when it comes to cleaning the glass. In fact, they might even be able to reach new heights in Aggie basketball history.

It was the shooting woes at the free throw line that were starting to become noticeable after the Alabama game, which was actually an intense contest with Wade Taylor IV out of the lineup. The Aggies shot 28-48 for the line, and as you probably guessed, the 3-point shooting wasn't any better.

Buzz Williams might've just made the home run hire that has already started to paying dividends.

Williams hired a free throw coach to combat previous poor shooting

This has already started to pay off for the Aggies, especially when the Ags went for 83 percent at the line against the Sooners.

It wasn't a Mike Leach type of rant, preaching to his students about trying out for a new kicker. Instead, Williams kept it serious and calm.

"We hired a new coach that was in charge of free throw shooting, and we're going to try to see if we can get him an extension and maybe a double-year contract or something."

Williams went to praising his team for talking about his team shooting at that high a volume at the line. They haven't seen it before until the Oklahoma game.

Free throws are without question going to be important during March Madness. Some games have been decided by missed free throws in clutch time, and it could be the difference of making or breaking a season.

The Aggies have had their own shooting woes from deep, but that's not really their identity anyway. Either way, they've found a way to make it work because they are a scrappy team that fights for any extra possessions.

It's the little things like free throws that will eventually start to add up and cost them, just like it did against Alabama.

This is a solid hire for the Ags, and they need to capitalize on it with this specific roster.
