Cashius Howell pulled off something extremely rare when he registered three sacks in three straight plays for Texas A&M football against Utah State.
Even though it was against a lower-level team, no player had recorded that kind of feat in any game since the 2015 season— and Howell made it happen for the Aggies to stop Utah State in their tracks. It was another addition to his lengthening list of pass-rushing bona fides, setting him up for a huge season going forward in the SEC.
This kind of performance deserves a recognition, and that's exactly what number nine got. Cashius has now earned an honor as the SEC defensive lineman of the week, thanks no doubt to this dominating showing against Utah State.

The announcement came down from the SEC today that Howell had earned this distinction.

This is extremely well-deserved for Howell. His play has been on another level since late last year, and Aggie fans everywhere are hoping that he continues to blossom for them along the defensive line.
It also is worth mentioning that Texas A&M football put out this great cut of that three-play sequence that every Aggie fan should take a look at:

Howell is now tied as the sack leader in the Southeastern Conference through two weekends of play, along with Auburn's Keyron Crawford and Alabama's Quincy Rhodes, Jr. Those three sacks for Cashius were his only ones of the year so far, given that UTSA hardly ever had a full drop back against the top-line Aggie defense, but he could add a few against Notre Dame this upcoming weekend if all goes well.
This could springboard the Aggie pass rush in a huge way. That was one of the big questions coming into the year for the A&M offense, and— so far— they've answered the call more than acceptably.
The real test is this week. Howell will be key in pressuring CJ Carr, but as I said, the blueprint is there from what Miami was able to pull off. Here's hoping we see some similar play out of the Aggie defensive end up in South Bend this weekend.
