Texas A&M offensive lineman Chase Bisontis could be the Aggie who improved his stock the most at the NFL Combine this past weekend. The former top-100 recruit out of New Jersey was a massive win for the Aggies, and he has started every game when healthy since stepping foot on campus, so it's no surprise that, despite declaring early, he's impressing already within NFL circles.
Bisontis ran an extremely impressive 40-yard dash, finishing with an unofficial 5.03s time— absolutely blazing when it comes to offensive linemen. His athletic gifts, including his intimidating strength, have been catching the eyes of NFL general managers, and he came away from the weekend as one of the big winners according to several outlets.
With that in mind, it makes sense that his name has been on a meteoric rise in mock drafts. After being considered a day three guy for much of this pre-draft process, Bisnotis has recently been mocked as high as the second round.
Chase Bisontis sees impressive NFL Combine results pay off with big jump in latest mock draft
The top-100 mock draft over at Saturday Blitz, put together by Nicholas Rome, sees Bisontis jumping all the way up into the second round, going 58th overall to the San Francisco 49ers. The 9ers are obviously a franchise that values their offensive linemen really highly, as Kyle Shanahan's scheme needs them to be adept at movement and effective in run blocking.
That fits Bisontis to a T, and is a big part of why he's a good fit in San Francisco. Another piece of things is his positional versatility— though he played most of his career in Aggieland at guard, he's spent time at tackle as well. Here's what Rome had to say about Bisontis's fit in San Francisco:
"The 49ers didn’t run the ball nearly as well as anyone would’ve expected despite having Christian McCaffrey. This offseason, the 49ers will need to improve on the interior offensive line to help improve. Chase Bisontis took a big step forward as a pass blocker this season and could develop into an elite piece for the 49ers."Nicholas Rome
Bisontis was one of the most effective linemen on a very good offensive front for the Aggies last year. Though Texas A&M will miss him this upcoming season, Aggie fans everywhere have to be happy seeing his stock shoot straight through the roof like this— who knows, he could even end up as a first-rounder before all is said and done.
