In what should be one of the most consistent offenses in the SEC, Texas A&M offensive coordinator Collin Klein gave fans a look at what to expect during media availability today.
He touched on Marcel Reed becoming a more confident quarterback than last season. Reed, the former freshman, stepped into a position that very few fans expected in 2024. Once Conner Weigman was awfully inconsistent against LSU, it became easy to see why Reed was going to be the quarterback of the future, especially after a second-half avalanche against the Bayou Bengals.
Klein also threw fans all the way to left field while talking about his receivers. He mentioned Ashton Bethel-Roman (skip to 11:20) as a guy that the Aggie offensive staff has been excited about, and if he can insert himself as someone who can get reps every week, the Aggies might have just found a new go-to weapon for the future.
Klein says Bethel-Roman is someone with 'home run potential'
"You look at a guy like Ashton Bethel-Roman, being in the program for a year, how he's developed and some of the things that he's put on tape in the first five days, I've been really, really excited about," Klein said. "He's got some home run potential, some top-end speed, but still being able to have that top-end gear and be able to detail his routes like he's doing and how he's done and the development that he's had over the last year has been great."
Bethel-Roman at 6-foot-1, 190 pounds, can be inserted as a slot receiver. He doesn't have many stats to show for, but he showed some promise last year against New Mexico State with three catches for 35 yards and a touchdown.
This could be a cheat code for Reed for the future, as he might have four reliable threats this season, and hopefully as well in 2026, pending some collapse in the portal. Either way, this is a great update from Klein to assure fans that this offense is the real deal.
