Dave Campbell Texas Football makes A&M claim that's embarrassing— for someone

Texas A&M football is hoping to take some huge strides this offseason, but some think those may be in the wrong direction.

Dave Campbell Texas Football shows absolutely zero confidence in Texas A&M football for 2025 with new power poll

Texas A&M football is, all things considered, having a pretty good offseason up until this point. The Aggies, despite some tumult in the transfer portal, addressed a lot of their needs and should be an improved squad— even with a much more difficult schedule.

Not everyone is so high on the Aggies, though. The loss of Stewart, Scourton, and Turner to the NFL loom large in the minds of many observers— despite the fact that the defensive line really wasn't all that dominant down the stretch of the year in 2024.

In that vein, Dave Campbell's Texas Football released the following poll a few days ago— one which struck Aggie fans thanks to its interesting placement of A&M and other squads.

Compare this with Bill Connelly's initial preseason SP+ rankings, which has Texas as the 7th-ranked team in the nation, A&M as the 12th-ranked team in the nation, SMU at 18th, TCU 26th, Tech 33rd, and Baylor 36th. Going by his actual numbers for the power rating, Baylor is further from matching A&M (10.5 adjusted points) than A&M is from matching the first-ranked team in the list, Ohio State (9.5 adjusted points).

If nothing else, that raises some serious questions about the placement of the Aggies and the Bears in particular. I could understand Baylor being ahead of Tech and TCU if you're particularly high on their portal pickups, but third-ranked— and three spots ahead of the Aggies— is a little too rich.

Of course, this is all assuming that the season remotely resembles what we think it might as Aggie fans, which history has shown to be a foolish presumption. We are coming up on five years since the Ags went an entire season with the same starting quarterback, so unpredictability sort of comes with the dinner at this point.

It's clear that the folks at Dave Campbell Texas Football are pretty low on the Aggies for this upcoming year— far off from where A&M fans are in the preseason. Let's just hope that by 2025's end the egg is on their face and not that of the maroon and white faithful.
