Despite fast start, Texas A&M football plods to uninspiring win over New Mexico State
Texas A&M football notches easy win but in unsatisfying manner
There's not a whole lot you can ever take from games like this, but Texas A&M football fans are still a little disappointed with how this game turned out.
The Aggies piled up obscene amounts of yardage in the first quarter, and had 24 points just after the second quarter began. Until true freshman Miles O'Neill tossed a touchdown with less than a minute on the clock in the fourth quarter, though, the Aggies only scored 7 points for the rest of the game.
Now, it was clear the Aggies were not doing every single thing they could to put up points. Marcel Reed had no called runs and Amari Daniels was done after the first quarter.
But still, this is a program that you should be able to roll over even in circumstances like that. I know the Aggies are injured in a lot of key spots and still dealing with some quarterback issues, but that's not what you want to see.
There were a few things I did like from this game. In the snaps he took, Daniels looked electric. I enjoyed what I saw from Miles O'Neill at the end of the game. The Aggies more than doubled up New Mexico State in yardage and the defense was suffocating against the passing attack.
Still, this was simply too undisciplined of an effort out of this team coming out of the bye. They looked rusty coming out of their previous bye as well, to be fair, but with the memory of the South Carolina game still fresh in fans' minds, this wasn't what many wanted to see.
