Despite lofty preseason ranking, Texas A&M baseball is out for revenge in 2025

Texas A&M baseball is clearly a favorite for the national championship this year— but make no mistake, they are still out for vengeance.

Texas A&M baseball, bearing top overall ranking, has some scores to settle in 2025

This past summer was a roller coaster for Texas A&M baseball fans. After faltering late in the regular season, the Aggies ripped off an unbelievable NCAA tournament run, going undefeated in the playoffs all the way to the College World Series final.

What happened there, though, is a sore subject. The Ags, despite going up one game to zero in the best-of-three series, stumbled in the final two games— they simply didn't look like the same team. Tennessee, their opponent, emerged victorious and the Aggies went home as runners-up.

The following events are where things really went awry. A mere matter of hours after returning from the College World Series, where he berated a reporter for asking him about this very thing, Texas A&M baseball coach Jim Schlossnagle left for a position at Texas.

That's a betrayal if there ever was one. Things looked dark for Aggie fans for a brief period, as most star players entered the transfer portal.

But then, with the return of Mike Earley— who had been the Aggies' hitting coach and was beloved by the players— things began to turn around. Every single player withdrew their name from the portal. In fact, the Aggies actually assembled one of the most impressive portal classes in the nation, adding elite name after elite name.

Now, the Ags are in a prime position to make another run at the College World Series title. In fact, they're ranked as the number one team in the nation going into the season. But even though they're favorites, they still have some scores to settle.

First of all, the Ags have to exact revenge on the Tennessee Volunteers. That will be no small task, as Tony Vitello has the Vols rolling, but the Ags haven't forgotten how that team conducted itself in the CWS.

Then, there's the obvious. One of the biggest matchups in recent college baseball history will come to a head when the Aggies travel down to the Longhorns' dump of a field to mete out some justice on their sorry program. One of the most low-rent, low-class, dishonorable moves in coaching history— and that's quite a laundry list that you have to go through— will receive its comeuppance on that day.

The eyes of the nation will be on the Aggies this year. And we wouldn't have it any other way.
