Despite scorching-hot play, Aggies still unranked headed into series against Texas

Michael Earley's squad has achieved quite the turnaround, but apparently the voters still need to see more from them.

Texas A&M baseball left out of D1Baseball Top 25 despite knocking off top two teams in nation

Texas A&M baseball has had a complete shift in their fortunes. After looking almost completely aimless in the first half of the season, shedding their preseason no. 1 ranking in record time, the Ags are now 8-1 in their last 9 games and have taken three straight SEC series.

These series weren't against no-name teams, either: A&M took two out of three from both no. 1 Tennessee and no. 2 Arkansas in that stretch. They also managed to pull off a sweep of South Carolina despite the Gamecocks going up by 10 runs in the final game.

There's obviously a lot of baseball left to play, so this might just be a flash in the pan, but it also could represent a total change in the way the season is going. Fans are sure hoping for the latter, but it remains to be seen.

It did seem, though, that the Aggies may have done enough to get themselves back into the polls after knocking off the two top-ranked teams in the nation. Voters are apparently still withholding judgment, however, as the Ags failed to make the poll this week.

With just how poorly the Aggies looked in the first part of the season, that's understandable. They're still outside the top 25 when it comes to RPI, as well. Of course, RPI has Georgia as the number one team in the nation at the moment, so that can only go so far.

If the Aggies can win this weekend series, once more against a number one team clad in orange, I think it will be hard to keep them out of this top 25. They'll well and truly be back on the road to the postseason at that point, even though that seemed unthinkable only weeks ago.

For now, though, the Ags will enter Austin unranked. All the better to pull off a huge upset.
