Could Theo Mehlin Ohrstrom be breaking out at just the right time for Texas A&M football?
Okay, so up front, I'll say I've written a similar article about the TE for Texas A&M football once before, earlier this season. When Ohrstrom strung together a couple of games with a touchdown catch, I thought we would see his role continue to grow.
For one reason or another, he kind of dropped off of the map following that point. When Weigman got back in the saddle, we saw much less out of the Big Swede. And against LSU and South Carolina, he wasn't much of a factor either.
But for an offense that is searching for a new playmaker, this past Saturday's game may have given them exactly what they need. Ohrstrom had his biggest game of his career against New Mexico State, catching 5 balls for 111 yards. Coming into the game, he had 4 catches for 69 yards all season.
Ohrstrom's combination of size, speed, and athleticism is rare at any level. He's worked his way into the rotation as a willing and capable blocker, but before last night hadn't shown a huge amount as a pass-catcher. Is he growing into a reliable option there?
For whatever it's worth, he and Tre Watson are likely the two best pure receiving options on the roster right now outside of Moose Muhammad. We know well why no. 7 has struggled to get on the field, though—but maybe it's time for the Ags to turn more to the TE than the WR.
Thomas, Barber, and company should still receive a steady diet of targets, but I think the Aggies really have something in Ohrstrom. I've been banging on this drum for quite some time, but hopefully, this time, it actually comes to fruition.
