Early and late-season creampuffs should give Texas A&M a couple of extra 'bye' weeks

It's always a grind in the SEC, but things will be especially tough for the Aggies in this upcoming season.

Texas A&M had a schedule that was, all things considered, relatively easy by SEC standards last year. At least, that's what we thought coming into the year.

Though the Aggies avoided Alabama and Georgia on their slate last year, they also ended up playing games against two teams that ended up in the final four, with one of those opponents being the runner-up for the national championship in Notre Dame.

Missouri and LSU weren't as tough as many had thought they would be, but South Carolina turned out to be far tougher. Auburn was in a tricky spot for the Aggies, and they fell prey to them at Jordan-Hare late in the year.

With the SEC's scheduling format dictating that the Ags run back their games with home and road splits flipped this year, there are precious few easy games on the schedule, especially considering that the Ags travel to Notre Dame this year. However, they have a bit more of an onramp this season. Let's take a look at the Aggies' creampuff slate for the year.

Texas A&M only has two creampuff games on schedule for 2025

Though the Aggies face two G5 teams in 2025 as well as an FCS squad, only one of those G5 games can be considered a 'gimme'— the UTSA Roadrunners, usually a pretty salty squad by the standard of that classification, are the Aggies' week one opponent.

Don't get me wrong: A&M should win that game, just like they should beat Mississippi State, but if you don't consider the Bulldogs a 'gimme,' neither are the Roadrunners— as a matter of fact, UTSA is ranked higher than MSU in several advanced stat profiles in the preseason. Let's dive into who the Aggies' actual easy games are.

Week 2: Utah State

Last year, Texas A&M played New Mexico State in a battle of the Aggies, and this year they will welcome in a different team with the same nickname. Utah State has had a few stretches where they deserved consideration as a team that could jump up and bite you, but that doesn't look to be the case for this upcoming year. Utah State is down at 120th in Bill Connelly's initial SP+ rankings, so A&M should be able to coast again before their week 3 trip to South Bend.

Week 13: Samford

The lone FCS opponent on the Aggies' schedule comes directly before their rivalry matchup with the Longhorns down in Austin. This will be senior day for the Ags, and every senior up and down the roster should be able to see some playing time. The starters will hopefully be out of the game by halftime, resting up for a massive game the following week.
