Texas A&M fans well remember Ed Orgeron for many reasons: he was the coach of the LSU Tigers when they fell to the Aggies in that climactic seven-overtime game back in 2018, as well as the following year when the Bayou Bengals won a national championship, embarrassing the Aggies 50-7 along the way.
He was eventually fired after a lackluster 2021 season— one in which the Tigers still, somehow, managed to beat the Aggies— and has been bouncing around the college football scene ever since. His massive personality precedes him at this point, and he always felt like a hand-in-glove fit at LSU despite being fired— but now, he's back.
As Lane Kiffin attempts to do everything he can to distance his tenure from that of Brian Kelly, his latest move was to hire Coach O onto staff, chiefly as a recruiter— and in that role, Orgeron has wasted no time in attempting to halt some major Aggie momentum with a five-star.

According to LSU sources, one of Orgeron's first moves was to get on the phone with two key recruits, one of whom is a player that the Aggies have been on for some time in Albert Simien.
What does Ed Oregeron bring to #LSU recruiting?

Less than 36 hours after returning to Baton Rouge, Coach O has already met with two of the Tigers’ top 2027 targets via FaceTime…

Simien is a five-star interior offensive lineman from the Lake Charles area, and the Aggies have been building a relationship here for quite some time. He was predicted to land with the Aggies all the way back in January, and has been high on them for even longer than that. Notre Dame and the in-state Tigers have been the biggest competition, but right now, the Aggies are still the front runners from all accounts.
Coach O knows better than anyone the optics and importance of keeping Louisiana locked down, especially when it comes to prospects of this caliber. Kiffin is not known for his high-level high school recruiting— he's more of a portal guy— so it was savvy of him to bring on Ed O, who always had some great classes coming into Baton Rouge.
It may be too late for the Tigers to flip momentum with Simien, though, because of how much the Aggies have poured into this recruitment. The allure of joining up with guys like Mark Matthews and Kennedy Brown has to play in in a big way here as well: this could be one of the best offensive line classes of all time if Simien jumps in the boat, and that has to be a big draw for him.
But if Texas A&M fans have learned one thing, it's that you can't underestimate the Tigers when it comes to these Louisiana players. Texas A&M at one point thought they had Lamar Brown locked down, but he ended up signing with the Tigers anyway.
Will this be a similar situation? Only time will tell. One thing is for sure, though: Ed O being back in the game in recruitments like these can't mean anything good for the Aggies.
