Texas A&M football could be back in the first round of the NFL draft this year... maybe two times over.

ESPN predicts two Texas A&M football DEs as first-round selections in 2025 NFL Draft

For the last few years, Texas A&M football has carried a reputation as one of the leading schools when it comes to talent along the defensive line. Though several have now departed, the Aggies picked up four five-star defensive lineman in just one cycle, and routinely are in the mix for the top names at the position across the country.

The transfer portal has been a boon for the Aggies in this respect as well. Maybe the most consequential portal addition for any team this cycle was A&M picking up a commitment from Nic Scourton, formerly of Purdue.

Scourton, who led the Big 10 in sacks last season, is really coming on in the last few games for the Aggies, notching 3.5 in the last two contests. He's been a terror up front overall, with 10 TFLs to his name in total.

It should be no surprise, then, to see his name in early projections for round one of the NFL draft. ESPN's Jordan Reid, in the latest mock draft for the Worldwide Leader, has Scourton going in the top ten.

However, Scourton is not the only Aggie that Reid sees as a first-rounder. No. 11's fellow-traveler on the defensive line, Shemar Stewart, also makes an appearance in this mock draft, going 19th to the San Francisco 49ers.

Texas A&M football has not had a first-round selection since Kenyon Green in the 2022 draft, and has not had multiple selections since 2014. This would be quite the way for Mike Elko's first draft to go.

Of course, both of these guys have two years of development under their belt before Mike Elko arrived in College Station. But with Stewart especially, we're seeing a big improvement from years past, under the previous regime. He came in looking ready for the NFL, but his potential is exploding so far under this staff.

It could be a good May for Texas A&M football fans if things continue apace. Here's hoping that all the draft hopefuls from College Station hear their name called early on.
