Texas A&M fans are slowly growing more and more hyped for this 2025 season as kickoff grows every closer. The maroon and white faithful are in agreement that this is a team that is pretty underrated in many respects, but that's not a sentiment that too many in the national media share very strongly.
However, signs keep emerging that this is a Texas A&M team that no one should be sleeping on. The amount of returning production and the way that Elko and company addressed their needs with aplomb through the transfer portal commend a high opinion of the Aggies for 2025.
This latest revelation from the ranks of advanced analytical profiles just goes to show exactly how high the Aggies' ceiling can be this fall. ESPN's Football Power Index, or FPI, has selected the Aggies as one of ten teams that have a realistic shot at a national title this year.
ESPN FPI predicts Texas A&M as one of ten teams with realistic chance at national title in 2025
A recent article showed that the Aggies, though on the fringes, made the list of ten teams with a real shot at winning the national title per ESPN's FPI metric. The other teams on the list include Texas, Georgia, Ohio State, Alabama, Penn State, Oregon, Clemson, Notre Dame, and Miami.
It's notable that LSU is not included on this list given the hype that they've been receiving. A&M has the lowest chances on the list at 2.3% according to the preseason version of this metric, but LSU apparently doesn't even rise to this level.
This is a prediction that takes schedule into account as well, shown by the fact that two of the teams that rank ahead of the Aggies, Miami and Clemson, actually have lower raw ratings than Texas A&M.
It's also notable that Notre Dame has such a close raw rating to the Aggies— 18.1 to Texas A&M's 17.9. This just underscores the importance of the game up in South Bend in early September. If Texas A&M takes that one, I'd bet their odds of winning the national championship skyrocket
