Looking back at every December game Texas A&M football has played since joining the SEC
Texas A&M football is gearing up to play in their bowl game against Southern California this Friday, December 27. This will be the 11th December game that the Aggies have played since joining the conference back in 2012.
In their most successful seasons, 2012 and 2020, the Aggies played their bowl games in January— which is always the goal. However, there are various and sundry circumstances that have affected othe years and whether or not the Ags played in December.
Let's go through, year by year, and take a look at every December game that the Aggies have played in since joining the conference.
December 31, 2013: Texas A&M football 52, Duke 48
Talk about starting this list off with a banger. This is still one of the most exciting college football games— not just Texas A&M football, but the whole sport— of the last decade and a half.
In Johnny Manziel's final game, the Aggies were in a bad way at the halfway point. A porous defense had surrendered touchdowns on every single first-half drive to the Blue Devils except for the final one of the half, where they got a field goal.
That defense, plus an offense that was having trouble getting going, added up to a 38-17 deficit. But the Aggies went on a 35-10 run in the second half, highlighted by this play:
A pick-six from Toney Hurd put the Aggies in front, and Nate Askew sealed the game by recovering a turnover for the Aggies. This was a fitting final game for Manziel's career in Aggieland.
