December 28, 2016: Texas A&M football 28, Kansas State 33
Another December loss for the Aggies came the following year, when the Ags lost to the Kansas State Wildcats in the Texas Bowl. Sumlin was undefeated in bowls in his first three years, but as the late-season collapses became more regular for his teams, postseason losses became a staple as well.
This was a hotly-contested game, however. There was some chippiness between Josh Reynolds and an upstart corner from Kansas State, but Reynolds finished with the upper hand when he mossed the Wildcat DB for a touchdown.
The physicality of the KSU offense was too much for the Aggie defense, however, which had begun to crumble late in the year. Though John Chavis's unit had shown a lot of progress in 2015, there had been a distinct regression in this season, and you could see that they were a little bit soft.
This dropped the Aggies to 2-2 in December since joining the conference— and things were about to go further downhill.
