Final 2025 SEC power rankings: 1 - Ole Miss

The Rebels were the final SEC team to play a snap this season, which— much more often than not— means you had an excellent season. Despite the off-the-field drama, that’s exactly what transpired in Oxford this season.

I don’t quite know what to expect out of Pete Golding going forward, especially with Charlie Weis leaving for LSU, but he did a masterful job in keeping his team focused through the first three games of the College Football Playoff, especially with two very tough games against Georgia and Miami. Fans are high on him right now in a very emotional time, but it remains to be seen as to whether he’s more than a band-aid solution.

After last season, though, there were not many that were optimistic about the Rebels’ ability to make the College Football Playoff. That 2024 squad seemed far more talented than what the Rebs had this season, but were still unable to make it.

While some doubtless had Ole Miss getting to the CFP in the preseason, such predictions were few and far between. Behind the arm of Trinidad Chambliss, one of the best stories of the year in college football, the Rebs finished very well and should be applauded.
