Five intriguing items on Texas A&M football's bowl depth chart
Texas A&M football will play in the Las Vegas bowl exactly one week from today. The Aggies will face off with a USC Trojans team that is currently in a bit of a spiral, while A&M comes in as a team on the rise.
The Ags released their depth chart today for the bowl; one that reflects portal entries as well as bowl opt-outs. That means there are quite a few items that deserve attention, as it's not just who's not there, but changes in status for who remains.
That said, there is one notable absence on the depth chart that we'll cover here. First, though, let's take a look and see what we can glean from the two-deep that A&M has released.
Five observations from A&M's bowl depth chart: Twelfth Man listed as backup
Given the fact that Shemar Stewart, Nic Scourton, and Shemar Turner are all opting out of the bowl game, you expect the lack of depth on the defensive line that is reflected here. What I didn't quite expect to see is that the 12th Man— Nana Boadi-Owusu— is listed as a backup on the depth chart.
The Aggies have had their 12th Man make some plays in bowl games over the last few years. Cullen Gillaspia got a tough-running touchdown against NC State in 2018, and Sam Mathews recorded an interception and overall great game last year against the Oklahoma State Cowboys.
Could Boadi-Owusu follow in those footsteps? It's certainly looking like he'll have some opportunity to do so. Given the shuffling that tends to happen up front, though, it could be that he's closer to fourth on the depth chart overall, so his share of snaps could be limited.
