Five-star safety Jireh Edwards names Texas A&M football as his leader ahead of busy spring visit slate

Texas A&M football is quietly building one of the most impressive classes in the nation for the 2026 slate. The Aggies have commitments from several top prospects already, both in and out of state, and are in the running for a litany of other illustrious names.

Of course, even though the Ags have some top players already committed, at this point in the 2026 cycle, many of the nation's best will not yet have given a verbal pledge to any school. Part of what gives the Aggies such hope for this cycle, though, is the relationships that their staff have already formed with those uncommitted four-and-five-star prospects.

One such prospect is five-star Maryland safety Jireh Edwards. Edwards is a player coveted by every program in the country— a true-blue five-star who will be a battle up until he signs on the dotted line— but it appears that the Aggies have put themselves in pole position thus far to land his signature.

As you can see from the other schools on his list, however, this will be no easy feat to pull off. The Aggies will have to face down the likes of Alabama, LSU, Oregon, and Auburn in order to land Edwards, some of the best programs in the nation when it comes to recruiting.

The Aggies have clearly laid a strong foundation in this one, however. With so many teams vying for the five-star safety's services, it's remarkable already that the Aggies have separated themselves from the pack enough that he would make this comment.

Of course, you have to finish out the race. "Close" only counts in horse shoes and hand grenades, after all— and though in this transfer portal world, finishing in second place is more meaningful than it used to be, the Aggies would clearly much rather gain his signature right out of high school— and it looks like they've positioned themselves well to do that exact thing.
