The game of "Clean, Old Fashioned Hate" did not disappoint.
In an 8-overtime thriller, and the second longest game of overtimes of college football history, the Georgia Bulldogs came back down 27-13 with five in a half minutes to go in regulation to win a 44-42 game.
The result was a heartbreaker for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, but for the Bulldogs, it was a sigh of relief as a loss could've met their playoff hopes being in jeopardy.
Besides the result, the game was a reminder for Aggie fans of what they could've had if the transfer portal wasn't as popular.
Haynes King's warrior performance reminds Aggie fans of what could've been
Haynes King was a member of the Texas A&M Aggies from 2020-2022.
King suffered a devestating leg injury early in the 2021 season. The season looked promising for the Aggies, but they had to look to Zach Calzada to beat No. 1 Alabama that season.
In 2022, King split time with Max Johnson and Conner Weigman, who was a true freshman at that time.
The A&M era didn't treat King all that well. It only makes us think what could've happened without all the injuries and other quarterbacks he had to battle.
Since joining Georgia Tech, King has become a multi-dimensional quarterback.
Against Georgia, exhausted physically with a cut knee, King did everything in his power to fight for his football team.
King ran 24 times for 110 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns along with throwing for 303 yards and three touchdowns in the loss to Georgia.
He hadn't made a major mistake all night long until Georgia defensive back Dan Jackson knocked the football out of King's hand late in the fourth quarter when Georgia Tech was just looking to run out the clock to win.
Don't just take this from the Georgia game, his performance against Miami says it all too. King ran 20 times for 93 yards and a touchdown in an upset win against the Hurricanes. Against North Carolina, he had 107 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
King has been one of the most exciting quarterbacks in college football this year. He would've been perfect under this team with Mike Elko right now.
His ability to run and trust his blockers is something Elko would love to depend on. Make no mistake about it. Marcel Reed has a gift for running the football too. King would've brought a veteran presence to the team while bringing in highly respected offensive lineman to build around him. The A&M defense would maintain the same strength as we know them to be today.
King represents everything the Aggies are all about. Toughness, determination and hard work that's earned. King earns every one of his yards regardless of his stamina on the field.
While King isn't an Aggie anymore, his performance this season can definitely be felt among Aggie fans who are playing the 'what if' game.
