Former highly-rated Texas A&M football target hits transfer portal

Texas A&M football could fill a huge roster need with a notable recent portal entry.

Texas A&M football has had a couple of notable swings and misses on the recruiting trail and in the portal recently. Dating back to the latter part of the Jimbo Fisher era, the Aggies have struggled with closing out some of their biggest targets— not everything is the 2022 cycle where the Ags got everyone they wanted, in other words.

The 2023 cycle was a good example of that. The Aggies had designs on landing some big time five-star targets, and even had some committed at different points during the season, but they ended up losing out on those players.

One such player was receiver Hykeem Williams, out of Florida. As a true X receiver, a go-up-and-get-it guy, he would have filled a hole on the roster for the Aggies, who were in need of just such a talent.

Now, a few seasons later, Texas A&M football may have another shot at Williams. An announcement today revealed that Hykeem was on the move after a few less-than-productive seasons in Tallahassee.

Could the Aggies be a player here? With the departure of Micah Hudson, they’re certainly in need of another receiver.

Even if Hudson were still on campus, though, the body type that Williams brings is different than anything else on their roster. Since Noah Thomas made tracks for Georgia, the Ags have been lacking in tall, lanky pass-catchers.

That makes this a match that’s certainly highly possible, given the prior history between the two parties. It was a different staff that recruited Hykeem, of course, and his lack of production in Tallahassee may be a concern (even if some is due to injury).

I’d call this one worth a flyer at the very least, though. Williams had the talent to be a legit five-star in the 2023 cycle, so maybe he could unlock that in College Station.
