Bobby Taylor is a former Texas A&M player that, despite his departure from the team without ever getting much playing time, still is fondly remembered by Aggie fans. However, some of the allegations that he put out on his Instagram story today may change the way that A&M fans feel about his time in College Station.
Taylor was a key piece of the top-ranked 2022 class that ended up flaming out for the Aggies. Though never ranked very highly, and struggling to see the field due to injury, he was often seen as the glue that helped all those five-stars end up in College Station: a recruiter among the recruits.
That's why fans were sorry to see him go— but it was understandable as part of the roster turnover that Mike Elko had to deal with. Taylor's Instagram story today, though, details how he saw things a little differently.
Bobby Taylor blasts Mike Elko and Texas A&M over forced exit wtih eyebrow-raising allegations
Taylor's current story hints at some troubles with the Aggies that are on his mind as he drives through College Station, stating that the police had to walk him out of the last Texas A&M game that he attended. In a now-deleted story, though, he expanded on his gripes with the Aggies.
He takes responsibility initially, saying that he "got too comfortable" and didn't think that getting cut "could happen to [him] and it did."
"I got cut 2 days after the spring game at 6:30 in the morning. That gave me like a week to get in the portal and commit, coming off an injury with no game film. They had to honor my scholarship because I didn't have any behavioral issues but best believe that NIL contract got snatched. I tried so hard to break all the labels they put on me, i knew people only thought I was recruiter, I just wanted to hoop man. Ultimately tho I couldn't shake the [expletive], got hella depressed and went to battle with myself. They even made it hard for me to get the degree, had to pay for classes while being on the same scholarship just to be able to graduate. And for the final act of love I had the police escort me out of kyle field like I committed a crime all because I wasn't playing..."Bobby Taylor
Those are some pretty nasty allegations by Taylor and it's clear he feels mistreated by Texas A&M. However, that's life in high-level college football to some degree; clearly he understands that he could have worked harder to stay on the team. The police escort detail is confusing; it seems like he possibly tried to access a players-only area after leaving the team and was removed— based on the circumstances of his departure, that could be more or less egregious.
The scholarship piece is puzzling as well— was the scholarship honored or not? He also makes it seem as though he would have had to commit from the portal within a week, when he only needed to get in the portal within a week and could have committed any time after that.
The mental struggles are hard to hear about, of course, and no one wants Bobby to have to deal with that. It seems as though he's come out on the other side well, as he indicates that he has "prevailed" in the same Instagram story.
When you are part of a high-level team like this, people are going to feel burned sometimes, and you hate that this happened to someone who fans have so much affection for, but reality sometimes hits in a way you weren't expecting. All the best to Bobby going forward.
