Texas A&M football is once again getting pretty active in the portal. The Aggies are moving quickly to address some of their prospective needs for next year; in particular, A&M is looking to address the receiver room and the defensive line.
With so many DL contributors moving on after this year— the entire starting group of Stewart, Turner, Regis, and Scourton— the Ags will need some production coming back. Though they're high on the potential of a guy like David Hicks, there's no substitute for experience.
Accordingly, they're looking to bring in some SEC starters with that kind of experience. One of the big names that the Aggies are hosting today is Jack Pyburn from Florida, a defensive end with some high-end pass rush ability.
However, upon Pyburn's entrance into the portal— which Florida fans were pretty disgruntled about— the Gator faithful began to spread some rumors about the productive DE. A Gators insider, Zach Abolverdi, propounded the following:
I think most fans have been around long enough to know that this kind of thing is said about a lot of players who are departing that the fanbase doesn't want to lose. I remember the cavalcade of rumors about Walter Nolen and Evan Stewart last go-round— you simply have to be careful what you believe with this kind of thing.
Despite their spurious nature, these claims have been making the rounds. Pyburn himself took to Instagram to make his voice heard on the matter.
This is a pretty good point. Why would he be demanding to be the starter when he has already locked down a starting spot? This certainly casts a lot of doubt on the other claims, though understandably Pyburn can't really say anything about them publicly.
Pyburn would be a big addition for the Aggies, and I don't think whatever NIL contribution needs to be made will be near what Florida fans are declaring. Hopefully, Elko and company can get this one locked down today.
