Former Texas A&M defensive back Aaron Glenn getting NFL HC buzz in midst of stellar run coaching Detroit defense
If asked what Texas A&M football's best representation in the NFL in the current day, you'd get a variety of answers from Aggie fans. Some could say Mike Evans, who just notched his 11th straight 1000-yard receiving season to open his career despite missing three games with injury.
Still others might say Myles Garrett, who is putting up similarly mind-bending numbers as a defensive end in Cleveland. You could have people pointing to Jake Mathews or Devon Achane, or even Von Miller in the twilight of his career.
But I'd bet that the most common answer you'd hear would be Dan Campbell up in Detroit. Under his leadership, the Lions have secured the top seed in the NFC for the first time in their franchise's long history, and despite all the injuries, have to be considered one of the favorites for the Super Bowl.
A&M fans, thoguh, should not forget his Aggie compatriot up in the Motor City— DC Aaron Glenn. Glenn, a former defensive back for the Aggies, has completely flipped the Detroit defense, and thanks to his stellar work, is beginning to be noticed by NFL front offices searching for a head coach.
According to a report by Adam Schefter, the Jets, Bears, and Saints are all going to take a long look at Glenn.
The defensive-minded head coach in the NFL is not exactly in vogue right now, but despite that reality, these three spots are all looking to possibly bring Glenn in thanks to his excellence thus far in Detroit. None of these three, however, bear a particular reputation for supporting their head coaches, as outside of Sean Payton, there's not been a whole lot of longevity at any of these spots for HCs.
That said, though, Glenn could be the guy to figure it out. He's put together some proven and elite defenses, and with what Campbell has done up in Detroit, teams will be eager to replicate that dynamic. He'll bring in some cache wherever he goes, and hopefully he will be an early success— if he does indeed choose to leave Detroit, that is.
