Former Texas A&M QB might be on his last legs when 2025 preseason concludes

He's broken the lifespan for an NFL player, but now it might be time to hang it up.

Football fans finally got a glimpse of the light at the end of the tunnel following the 2025 NFL Hall of Fame Game, where the Detroit Lions took on the Los Angeles Chargers. Even though it was one of the duller games that anybody could watch, it was a pleasant sight to see that football is alive and well again.

Former Texas A&M quarterback Kyle Allen has been an NFL journeyman since his days at Texas A&M. Even though he got off to a 5-0 start while being a full-time starter at A&M, the SEC competition became too much, and he transferred to play at Houston. Allen is now on his sixth NFL team in eight years, and while he's at 29 years old with something to prove, he might be on his last legs.

Allen went for 9/14 passing, 91 yards and two interceptions. Most of the action came from Craig Reynolds on the ground, but when Allen did get his reps, it almost looked like a deer in the headlights.

Former Aggies QB Allen might be on NFL life support soon

Allen's most productive season was in 2019 for the Carolina Panthers, where he threw for 3,332 passing yards, 17 touchdowns and 16 interceptions. Even in his most productive season as an NFL QB, his play was middle of the pack at best.

Of course, the job of an NFL quarterback is more difficult than anyone can imagine. Just take a look at Tua Tagovailoa asking the media to repeat a play call back to him. Allen, for the most part, has been an NFL backup, which is already a valuable position in itself in the grand scheme of things.

Former offensive and defensive coordinators Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn were significant reasons why the Lions performed at a historic level last season. Now, with new coordinators, the Lions might take some time to adjust.

Allen played a short stint at Texas A&M compared to most who have played the position in school history, and it's still nice to see him in the league. Hopefully, he can perform stronger this preseason, but if not, his name may be on the list to get cut before the Lions get to 53 guys.
