As Buzz Williams has officially completed his journey as the Texas A&M basketball head coach, the search remains for the new face leading the Aggies.
Buzz led the Aggies to some of their best AP rankings in Aggie basketball history, but after some disappointing NCAA Tournament results, the time for Buzz was now to move onto Maryland after a six-year stint building some of the best rough and tough Aggie players that he's ever built.
Now, the search begins for a new coach. Here are four top guys that could be leading the Aggies for the 2025-26 season.
4. Greg McDermott
Greg McDermott has been the heart of the success of the Creighton basketball program for the past five seasons now.
Ryan Kalkbrenner, Steven Ashworth, Trey Alexander are among the big names he's coached, and he's coached plenty of other big time players in the program.
This would be the perfect time for McDermott to leave solely because of a similar Buzz Williams problem -- his core guys are headed out. This could mean for a new start for him as well as the Aggie program.
3. Brad Underwood
Underwood joins a list of Oklahoma State blood to be named in the coaching search for the Aggies. After a cryptic message from Steve Lutz riding on a horse, it appears Lutz is safe in Stillwater.
For Underwood, he helped coach Illinois to some relevant seasons over the past couple of years, after coaching guys like Coleman Hawkins and Will Riley.
Underwood has a tough mentality to build up whoever he wants to. He speaks Aggie culture, and he'd be a delight to watch as well as a relevant name to help bring the Aggie basketball program to relevance.
2. Kellen Sampson
As Houston begins their journey at another Final Four appearance, the name Kellen Sampson has been popping up as a link to the new Aggie head coach.
As the son of legendary coach Kelvin Sampson, Kellen has a solid resume. He's been the assistant coach at Houston for the last 11 seasons, and before that, he helped coach up Appalachian State and Stephen F. Austin.
It's only a matter of time until Sampson becomes a head coach somewhere. Why not start fresh with the Aggies? Not to mention: he's been around his dad for more than a decade. He's got over a decade of experience shadowing his dad, so this would no doubt be a home run hire for Texas A&M.
1. Bucky McMillan
This could be a risk for the Aggies, but the one that pays off big time. Many at Alabama considered Nate Oats a huge risk for the Tide, but he profiled very similarly to McMillan.
The head coach of Samford, McMillan had an illustrious career in the high school ranks before jumping to a low major school. His offensive system is revered all throughout the country, and would be a refreshing change of pace to the at-times plodding offense we've seen out of the Ags.
McMillan is getting a lot of chatter right now, and fans are a bit divided. If he ends up being the hire, we could be seeing a lot of excitement out of A&M fans soon... or a lot of disappointment
