Holmon Wiggins drops hint that Marcel Reed’s best weapon is about to be unleashed

This would be a big shift from the strategy the Aggies used last year.

Texas A&M’s coaches met with the media yesterday ahead of spring football officially kicking off on Friday. Fans got to hear not only from head coach Mike Elko, but also from new offensive coordinator Holmon Wiggins and new defensive coordinator Lyle Hemphill.

While Elko and Hemphill drew a lot of attention, fans were paying particularly close heed to the words of Collin Klein’s successor in the former Aggie receivers coach. Wiggins is taking on an OC job for the first time in his career, and thought A&M had a potent offensive attack last season, they dropped the ball at some important times down the stretch.

One thing in specific that Wiggins had to say was something that Aggie fans have been wishing for for quite some time— and it could prove that Texas A&M’s head man has found the exact right guy to play to Marcel Reed’s strengths.

Texas A&M offensive coordinator Holmon Wiggins hints at making the most of Marcel Reed’s abilities

Wiggins promised a focus on something that fans were begging for last year: getting their uber-mobile quarterback out and on the move.

That’s a quote for… sore ears, I guess. Like a sight for sore eyes, but something you hear.

Reed’s ability to run was something that was not taken full advantage of last year, with the dreaded moniker of “pocket passer” being dropped about no. 10 multiple times. That was the opposite of what Aggie fans wanted, as Reed’s ability to move is his not-so-secret weapon.

Now in his third year as a starter, he should have enough confidence to not jump the gun if it’s time to move, but also the decisive character to get out of dodge when the time comes. Wiggins’ apparent commitment to that will serve to increase confidence in his ability among Aggie fans.

There are still a lot of question marks surrounding this new hire, but this is a great start. Texas A&M has a chance at a huge year in 2026, but it will require Wiggins to excel— and this seems like a good start.
