The Texas A&M Maroon and White spring game ended the first half early after an unfortunate and gruesome injury to team captain Daymion Sanford. Sanford, a linebacker who was named a captain for Texas A&M just yesterday, got rolled up on just under the two-minute warning after a physical run play by the White offense.
Sanford went down immediately, and just from listening to the announcers, you could tell that things were bad. It appeared upon rewatch to be an injury to his ankle, though no official word has come from anyone associated with the team at this point. The fact that the first half was called early was a telling sign, however.

Sanford was slated to be a breakout star for the Aggies this year after filling in as a backup for most of last season behind Scooby Williams. He was the captain of the Maroon team and was drafting the players earlier this week.
After the injury, the cart was brought out for Sanford, which is never a good sign at all.

We can hope that this is all just precautionary, of course. You want to be extra careful in a game like this to avoid injury, so it could be that the Aggies are going above and beyond to make sure Sanford is treated as carefully as possible.

Sanford had a Maroon Team-high 4 tackles and one QB hurry.

However, things do indeed look pretty dour right now. The silver lining is that, if this is an injury with a several-month timetable for return, the Aggies are still yet five months away from actually starting the season, so it's conceivable that Sanford could be back before or early in the year.
