We know this is an improved Mississippi State football team, but is that enough to win out some key positional battles?

Texas A&M's passing game versus Mississippi State's pass defense

The most appetizing matchup of the weekend is Texas A&M's passing offense against Mississippi State's pass defense, and not just because wideout Mario Craver gets to play against his former team for the first time since transferring to College Station in the offseason.

Mississippi State has been great locking up offenses through the air, holding offenses to 189.5 yards per game and a completion rate below 60 percent. Again, three of their games have come against inferior competition, but they did hold a high-powered Arizona State offense to just 82 passing yards and forced quarterback Sam Leavitt into one of the worst games of his career.

One area the Bulldogs have struggled with is getting to the quarterback, boasting a sack rate of just 4.55 percent which is a bottom-third mark nationally, and they're also coming off a game against Tennessee where they allowed 335 yards through the air and sacked Joey Aguilar just twice on 40 pass attempts.

I spent a lot of time here talking about the Bulldogs defense because we know more than enough about the Aggie passing game. This is one of the best offenses in the country through the air and one that I don't see having much difficulty finding big plays against the visiting team on Saturday.

The edge goes to ... Texas A&M
