How far can Texas A&M exceed expectations in 2025 football season?

Texas A&M has decidedly taken on an underdog role in the leadup to the 2025 football season so far, at least if media perception is to be taken at face value. The Aggies were not exactly the talk of SEC Media Days, except for a few nuggets here and there about how other coaches around the league consider them to be pretty slept-on for this upcoming year.

That's just how the Aggies would like things, I think. It remains to be seen where they rank in the preseason top 25 (if anywhere— the dearth of hype nationally has been enough where they could slide out, though I think it unlikely), but it's better to play the dark horse role than be overhyped.

Some of the numbers floating out there from outlets covering college football serve to show just how underrated the Aggies are heading into next season. With preseason win totals beginning to release, the Ags could be a team that far exceeds expectations.

Texas A&M can blow preseason win total out of the water in 2025

Vegas currently sees the Aggies as a team with a 7.5 over/under for win totals in the upcoming year. Pro Football Focus, for their part, sees A&M surpassing this mark:

Texas A&M has a tougher schedule than last year, and a heck of a stretch where they don't play at home for nearly an entire month. However, they will be more experienced at nearly every position than they were last year, and where they're not, they will be decidedly more talented (read: at wide receiver).

The jump that the Aggies could take, especially if Marcel Reed takes a couple of steps forward, could see them blow this 7.5 prediction out of the water. A&M could soar to 8 wins by the time November rolls around if things go right— with September games against Notre Dame and Auburn being huge in that possibility.
