The top-five ranked Texas A&M football recruits of all time— and where each ended up

Texas A&M football has had some adventures in recruiting over the years— some turn out excitingly, and some less so. The Aggies are no stranger to high-level battles on the trail and developing some top talent into early draft picks.

But while stars obviously matter in the aggregate, not every five-star will pan out as a top-level NFL draft prospect. The Aggies have had their fair share of disappointing outcomes on that front, as has every team, to go right along with their success stories.

So how did the top-rated recruits of all time for Texas A&M football pan out? Let's take a look at the top five according to the 247Sports composite rankings.

Top five Texas A&M football recruits of all time - No. 5: DJ Hicks (0.9955)

Coming in at fifth on the list is a guy that is still on campus for the Aggies, and a guy that many of the Maroon and White faithful have a lot of hope for. A&M brought in DJ Hicks as a top-four recruit in the nation in his class, and he has yet to fully realize that potential.

Just because it hasn't happened yet, of course, doesn't mean that it won't. Hicks is still the same physical monster that he was expected to be coming out of high school, he just has yet to impact the game after sitting behind some pretty entrenched starters for most of his career.

There are some legitimate questions about his inability to displace guys like Albert Regis, but that speaks more to Regis's progression in Aggieland than any lack thereof on the part of Hicks. I'm excited to see what he has in store for us in the upcoming year— his story is nowhere near done being written. 0.9955
