Texas A&M football is laying a lot of their offensive hopes this season at the feet of their running back position. Though there's a lot of optimism surrounding the prospective improvement of Marcel Reed at the quarterback position as well as the upgraded receiver room, the running back stable is clearly still the most talented skill position group on the team.
Le'Veon Moss is the only Aggie player to make the preseason all-SEC first team, and though there were definitely other deserving A&M players, it's clear why Le'Veon is the first choice. His availability had a lot to do with the Aggies' success last season, as when he went down, A&M entered a steep skid.
There's a lot of excitement as well surrounding the return of former five-star Rueben Owens. The Aggie RB, flipped from Louisville in the 2023 cycle, had a good freshman season, but was apparently ready to break out in 2024 before a fall camp injury sidelined him for essentially the entire year.
His breakout may have been delayed, but it appears to be coming. Combined with Moss's proven talent, it makes sense that both of these players have been put on the watchlist for the Doak Walker award.

If one of these guys takes it home at the end of the year, that means big things for Aggie football. Not only will it be a recruiting tool, but it is likely a consequence of A&M having a huge year on the field, and especially offensively.
With the run game as such a vital part of the Aggies' offensive attack under Klein's system, this recognition goes a long way. I haven't even mentioned the fact that, given Reed's running ability, this will only make things easier for him overall. Hopefully, we see Moss or Owens bring home this prestigious award by season's
