Texas A&M cannot afford another hit to their wide receiver corps on the injury front, but it looks like that's exactly what just happened for the Aggies. Mario Craver has been in and out of the lineup this year with some bangs and bruises, but he just went down on a play against South Carolina that saw him reaching for his knee— a terrible sign for the Aggies.
TK Norman will have to step in for Craver in this game, as the Aggies are already without Terry Bussey and Ashton Bethel-Roman. Aaron Gregory will see his snaps increase as well, as he's been coming on strong over the last month or so, and don't be surprised to see an increased amount of play from true freshman Jayden Warren either.
Texas A&M WR Mario Craver exits South Carolina game with injury
Craver has been the most explosive player for Texas A&M when it comes to the passing game, as he has the ability to light things up whenever the ball is in his hands. He has the most touches out of any receiver, and for good reason— he can threaten teams whether he catches the ball behind the line of scrimmage or if he goes deep.
He dealt with an injury that limited him in a big way against both Kentucky later in the game, and LSU through the whole contest. He's looked better since then, and played quite well against Alabama, but he's had trouble staying on the field already this season.
Injuries at the receiver spot have been positively devastating for the Aggies so far this year. Terry Bussey was poised for a breakout year in the maroon and white, but on the first play against Kentucky, he sustained an injury that ended up knocking him out for the season.
True freshman Madden Williams was injured in fall camp and was out for the year. Midway through fall camp, former five-star Jerome Myles was reported to have left the team. For today's game, Ashton Bethel-Roman and Kelshaun Johnson, both of whom have seen a lot of snaps this season, are out.
In other words, the depth for the Aggies is now razor-thin at this important position. Especially if Craver is unable to reenter the game, things will be really tough.
This looked like a routine play for the Aggies, but Craver had to be helped off of the field. It looked like he was able to put weight on his leg, which is good news, but it's highly questionable whether he will return to this game. This page will be updated with any news on Craver's status as soon as it becomes available.
Update: after the quarter break, Craver was seen back out on the field, so he should be good to go for the rest of the game. That's a huge break for the Aggies with a player that they will need to show up in a big way if they want to win.
