This past Sunday, Texas A&M baseball put the finishing touches on what turned out to be an emphatic sweep over the Elon Phoenix. The Aggies struggled in the first game against Elon on Friday night, with an upstart pitcher for the Phoenix faring really well against an intimidating A&M lineup.
The next two games, however, were anything but close. The Aggies' bats woke up in a big way, obliterating the opposing pitching time after time. There were some defensive highlights too, particularly out of Long Beach State transfer Myles Patton in his Sunday start.
What made this emphatic series win even more impressive is that the Aggies were without one of their premier hitters in Caden Sorrell. Head coach Michael Earley disclosed right before the season that Sorrell would be out for the "foreseeable future" with a hamstring injury that he suffered before the year began.
Even so, there were some Aggie fans hopeful that we could see the return of Sorrell this weekend. The latest update was less rosy than some of the Maroon and White faithful hoped, however.
Michael Earley rules out Caden Sorrell for Texas A&M baseball this weekend
It looks like Texas A&M baseball fans will have to wait just a little bit longer to see Sorrell take the diamond for the first time in 2025.

That's a bummer for Aggie fans, without a doubt. However, the Aggies are in great hands: Terrence Kiel, Jr., who stepped in for Sorrell this past weekend, did a bang-up job replacing the star sophomore. He flashed a lot both at the plate and in the field, and with a story as great as his, Aggie fans are excited to see TK back out there.
Hopefully, though, Sorrell can continue to heal up and get back out there sooner rather than later. I'd be more than surprised if his absence even approaches conference play, but I'm not sure when exactly he'll be back out on the field.
