Injury update: Will Texas A&M football face Quinn Ewers or Arch Manning?
Will Texas A&M football face off against Quinn Ewers or Arch Manning on Saturday?
Texas A&M football is facing down their final challenge of the regular season this Saturday. The Texas Longhorns are rolling into Kyle Field for the first time since 2011, ready to renew the rivalry that has lain dormant since the AD in Austin refused to continue playing it.
There has been a lot of talk about the quarterback position in Austin this year, as starter Quinn Ewers has disappointed relative to the preseason Heisman hype he was receiving. Thanks to an injury earlier in the year, too, Longhorn fans saw the man they consider their future at the position in Arch Manning take a few snaps, whetting an appetite for more among a notoriously fickle fanbase.
Despite that, and despite an extremely poor performance in Georgia that resulted in his benching, Ewers seems to be the guy for the Longhorns headed into rivalry weekend. However, a question has been raised on that front thanks to an injury that Ewers sustained against Kentucky.
The Texas QB had to undergo an MRI for an ankle he tweaked against the Wildcats last Saturday. Things seem to be on the up-and-up, according to the Longhorns' coach, but headed into a game like this, it's tough to know what's a smokescreen and what's real.
If Ewers is unable to play, it's tough to say whether that's a better or worse thing for A&M. I think you could find Texas fans that would tell you that Quinn is better and some that would tell you Arch Manning is better. The sample size is small with Manning, but the stats certainly don't leap off the page compared to what Ewers has done.
This all could be a moot point anyway. Both guys seem capable of running Sark's QB-friendly system (though Manning does run a little more), so the Aggies should just prepare for what they've seen so far schematically.
